Islamophobia & Ihsan — Reclaiming Who We Are
- Adam Samon
- Digital Values and Etiquette, Commentary
Hadith Anchor:
The Prophet ﷺ said:
“Allah has prescribed Ihsan in all things.” (Muslim)
Islamophobia isn’t new. It rises with every political cycle, every sensational headline, every echo chamber that needs a villain. Countries change, governments change, platforms change — but the narrative feels the same: Let us tell you who Muslims are.
But here’s the truth we sometimes forget:
Islamophobia only gains power when we let others define us.
When outsiders, politicians, newspapers, and social media become the authors of our identity, we shrink. We react. We defend. We apologise.
We live on the back foot — explaining ourselves instead of being ourselves.
Islam doesn’t ask us to beg for acceptance.
Islam asks us to stand with dignity.
And the way we do that is through Ihsan — excellence, beauty, and moral clarity in every action.
Not perfection.
Not pretence.
But sincere, consistent excellence in how we speak, live, work, walk, and worship.
Because Ihsan is identity.
It’s the character of the Prophet ﷺ.
It’s the quiet strength of those who stay true even when the world stereotypes them.
In a climate of Islamophobia, Ihsan becomes resistance:
When caricatures say we are harsh, we respond with gentleness.
When media paints us as extreme, we respond with balance.
When society expects anger, we respond with integrity.
When fear distorts who we are, we live in a way that reveals who we truly are.
Not for them — but for Allah.
And that’s the difference.
If we root our identity in public opinion, we crumble.
If we root it in Allah, we rise.
Islamophobia grows when Muslims are invisible or unsure.
It weakens when Muslims live visibly, confidently, and beautifully as themselves.
Not performing.
Not hiding.
Just living their deen with Ihsan, day by day.
DigitalDeen Reflection:
Let the world name you what it wants — as long as Allah knows who you are.
The clearest way to fight Islamophobia is to live your Islam so beautifully that the world’s labels no longer stick.
